Visiting Artists and Off-Campus Trips
Buck's Rock holds many workshops throughout the summer featuring visiting artists who lecture, demonstrate and teach new methods in our various performing and creative art studios. These events enhance our already very complete program, allowing campers to become exposed to additional professional artists, their teaching and new techniques. Some of these featured programs include: songwriting and video workshops with professional artists/performers, stand-up comedy workshops, found object jewelry making, kinetic sculpture, ceramic tile making, quilting, and much more. Alumni and professional musicians and comedians will also visit Buck's Rock to perform during the summer.
In addition to the many wonderful opportunities Buck's Rock offers on site, each session campers may choose to join a trip to nearby museums such as the Yale-New Haven Art Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the Aldrich Museum, MASS MoCA, sculpture gardens such as Storm King and Sticks and Stones, as well as galleries and local art studios. These opportunities allow campers to see the work of professional artists and broaden both their appreciation and imagination.
Since we also believe that an appreciation of the performing arts enriches the lives of young people, campers may choose to participate in trips taken to the Shakespeare Theater in Lenox, Massachusetts, the Berkshire Music Festival at Tanglewood, and Jacob''s Pillow in Lee, Mass. In addition, each shop hosts an off-campus trip that pertains to its mission, from visits to a nearby agricultural fair and a minor league baseball game to canoeing trips on local waterways.
