Buck's Rock Collaborative Projects

Over the years, campers and staff have worked together to design and build artistic masterpieces that speak to the camp’s unique spirit. The collaborative nature of these projects is a true testimonial to the dedication of the community.

Buck's Rock Tribute to the Beatles

The Beatles Tribute mural is an example of the collaborative efforts between the performing and visual arts programs at Buck's Rock. The concept was simply to unite the skills of campers and counselors into one unique project while simultaneously complimenting the Music Shed's own production.

The image was designed and drawn by the Head of the Painting Studio, Rick Price. With a majority of the design hidden from the 53 people who helped create the mural, Rick directed them with only the necessary rules involving color and contrast; otherwise the imagination of the painter became the creative ingredient that made this work of art so successful and representative of the communal efforts at Buck's Rock.

The Picnic Quilt

The Picnic Quilt was a project conceived of by Adam Ellyson and the Sewing Shop. The objective was to make a quilt in a day. Adam designed the rough sketch and campers and staff sewed for 14 hours creating this picnic scene. The names of all the participants were put into a hat to see who got to take the quilt home.

Buck's Rock 60th Reunion Mural

The Buck's Rock 60th Reunion Mural was designed as a tribute and memorial to the founders of Buck's Rock, Dr. Ernst and Ilse Bulova. Campers and staff painted the mural during the weeks leading up to the 60th Reunion celebration. Then, at the celebration, alumni were invited to make ceramic tiles to surround the mural.

Portraits of Peace

Coordinated by Rick Price, this new mural made in the summer of 2004, beautifies Buck's Rock and adorns the Publications Shop. A remarkable number of campers and staff participated in this amazing collaborative mural.

Commemorative Totem Pole

Inspired by Nick Cheeseman, long time staff member, the Totem Pole stands proudly among the Glass, Wood, Sculpture and Pub Shops and is a tribute to Buck's Rock and our many shops and studios. The totem was carved and painted during the summers of 2004 and 2005.
