July 11
8:30pm: Alice in Americaland
Or Through the Picture Tube and What Alice Found There.
An adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic tale by Dennis Snee.
This play finds Alice trapped in the 'wonderland' of American pop culture.
Mr. Snee's play recognizes that there are equally strange creatures in our
icon-d riven society as in any wonderland of Lewis Carroll. Alice represents
the innocence in all of us and she is being thrown up against the forces
that pull America along its continued path of overmedication, pop icon
adulation, political corruptness and the collapsing of the family unit.
See what happens when our innocent Alice comes face to face with some of the
more disturbing parts of America-Land.

Buck’s Rock Performing
and Creative Arts Camp
Spring 2007
Greetings once again!
We wanted to contact you one last time before the 2007 season to update you regarding many exciting events and additional plans for the summer.
Buck’s Rock Celebrates its 65th Season and Alumni Day
SATURDAY, JULY 28th, 2007
In collaboration with the Friends of Buck's Rock, we invite all current and former campers and their families, staff, and friends to return to camp for this most festive anniversary celebration. Many special activities will mark the day and we hope to feature the musical talents of several generations of Buck's Rockers. If you are interested in performing, or to add your name to the mailing list for this event, or to inquire or volunteer, please e-mail Lew Frisch at: alumevents@earthlink.net
A few words about Alumni Day:
The annual Alumni Day at Buck's Rock allows alumni to share talents and perspectives with the amazingly creative staff and campers who continue to make Buck's Rock such a special place. We all enjoy the opportunities to revive or strengthen old friendships, create new ones and continue our participation in a vibrant, creative community where the values we learned at Buck's Rock continue to thrive. In 2005, Buck's Rock Camp and the Friends of Buck's Rock formalized plans for a regular Alumni Day at Buck's Rock to be held each summer on the fifth weekend of the camp season. A very special feature of this day was initiated in 2004 when we invited alumni to return to camp and meet informally with campers and staff in various shops. Alumni were invited to talk about their craft or profession and to bring some of their work to show or demonstrate or perform. They also shared their thoughts about what the shops were like when they were at camp and how Buck's Rock influenced their career choices and life in general.
We again invite you to share your life and work with the campers. You will definitely enjoy spending an afternoon with the campers-- they are never dull. Equally rewarding is the opportunity to spend time with the immensely diverse and talented staff that we have assembled. This is the perfect opportunity to experience again how Buck's Rock makes a profound and meaningful difference in the lives of the young people that attend.
The 2007 Second Session Music Tribute
This year's exciting Second Session multi-media music event is scheduled for August 6 and will again be coordinated by Ivan Rubenstein-Gillis. It will be a tribute to the 90’s.
Remember the 90s? We hope so! This summer we will focus our annual all-camp multi-media spectacular tribute on the sounds, sights and momentous events of the years leading up to New Millenium. Join us as we celebrate the music of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Lauryn Hill, R.E.M., Mariah Carey, Oasis, Seal, Ricky Martin and MANY more.
For those who were part of previous tributes - the 50’s through the 80’s, the History of Rock and Roll, the Beatles and Motown – you know how amazing the process and production is. Singers, musicians, dancers, actors, artists, and narrators will be needed. Together, we can survive Y2K.
Off Campus Trips
This summer we will again visit Tanglewood on Friday, July 6 for their Opening Night Extravaganza featuring the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
On July 8, we will go to Shakespeare and Company to see a production of “Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
In the Second Session, we will visit Jacob’s Pillow on August 4 to see the exciting Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group.
Signing up for these trips is on a first come basis at the Office. In addition, many exciting, studio related field trips are coordinated throughout the summer. Details will be available at the individual studios.
Renovations!!!!
The bunks in Girls Annex 1 have been enlarged, offering campers more room and improved use of space for clothing and belongings. The interior of GAI has also been freshly painted.
The Boy’s House will feature new windows and siding for this upcoming summer to improve both it’s appearance and better air ventilation in the building.
Our beautiful, airy Dance Studio has undergone a significant face-lift with a resurfaced floor, new mirrors all around and passive cooling through roof cupola venting.
The Radio Station, WBBC, has a new configuration and interior layout, in addition to a new a/c system.
We have continued to enhance our Dining Room with wood trimming and resurfacing the hard wood floor. Last summer’s improvements to the salad bar and coffee/tea area, the photo montage above the salad bar, in addition to these touches, truly make the Dining Room a very pleasant space to eat and enjoy the company of friends.
Spring Open House
Our Spring Open House will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 1 PM to 4 PM (Rain date May 20). On that day, we will be offering tours of the camp and facilities and would be pleased to discuss our performing and creative arts program with any newly enrolled or prospective families. Please call us at 800-636-5218 to advise us if you plan to attend. Driving directions to camp can be obtained from our website at www.bucksrockcamp.com
2007 CIT Meeting
The CIT Meeting will be held in New York City at the School of Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street and Central Park West, on Saturday, May 5 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. We will discuss the CIT program, paying special attention to our expectations of this year’s CITs as Big Brothers and Sisters.
Our CIT/Big Sibling Program
Buck’s Rock’s CITs are integral to our program. They have all been to Buck’s Rock before, and in some cases, for many summers. They act as apprentices in a shop of their choice for half of their day, and are campers for the other half. CITs also act as ambassadors to our new campers and in this very important role, they help our new campers integrate into the Buck’s Rock community. We carefully match new campers with a CIT from an area of their interest, and while that CIT will be most experienced in their assigned area, they are extremely familiar with all that Buck’s Rock has to offer and can speak knowledgeably about most areas. New campers can expect to be contacted by their CIT/Big Siblings before their arrival at camp, either by mail, phone or email.
Enrollments Still Welcome
We still have openings for both boys and girls in the First, Second, Six Week and Full Sessions. Please contact us for more information.
Good News from Bucks Rockers and Congratulations to:
Brett Kizner (Publications) and Dana Rapoport (Theater Tech), on their recent engagement.

All of the couples above met while working at Buck’s Rock.

The Rock - Fall 2006 Newsletter

The Rock - Buck's Rock Newsletter - Fall 2006
Festival 2006
Festival 2006 was a great finish to another incredible summer! The scheduled events and art exhibits highlighted our campers' achievements and new and honed skills. The Festival Day show, "Bullshot Crummond" was wonderful, as
was the production of "Anything Goes." Congratulations to all our campers and staff for their participation in our Festival activities. We also want to thank our staff for their exceptional dedication and contribution on that day and throughout the entire summer, as it was truly a memorable one!
Camp Reunion
Reunion this year will again be held at the New York Society for Ethical Culture School, at 2 West 64th Street in New York City on Sunday, December
3rd from 2:00 to 4:30 PM. As in the past, we anticipate over 300 campers and counselors to attend. There will be refreshments and a showing of the 2006 Memories video, as well as the chance to visit with friends. As requested by the School of Ethical Culture, please socialize only in the Social Hall and do not congregate inside or outside the building on the sidewalk. Those of you who have come to previous reunions know how enjoyable the afternoon can be. We hope to see you there and have the chance to speak with everyone! The 2006 Summer Compilation CD and 2006 Memories DVD will be available for purchase.
2006 Financial Aid
As in past years, we are so pleased to have been able to financially assist over fifty eligible families this past summer. Also, in partnership with "Street Squash," an urban youth enrichment program in NYC, and S.T.E.P. "I have a Dream Foundation" from Washington DC, we provided scholarships for several children who equally contributed and appreciated the new opportunities Buck's Rock offered them. We also sponsored a camper with Friends of Buck's Rock who had a great summer with us.
We would also like to thank those families who made donations as well as those who donated the remainder of their child's camper account to the Buck's Rock Scholarship Fund which will help us sponsor other campers in the summer of 2007.
Memories 2006
Our 2006 Video Shoppe Staff and CITs produced another exceptional Buck's Rock Memories DVD. Featuring most every camper and staff member, the DVD should not be missed! See it again at Reunion.
2006 Compilation CD
Buck's Rock's 2006 Compilation CD is a wonderful collection of camper music, professionally recorded, mastered and engineered in our Recording Studio by Studio 59's 2006 engineering staff and CITs. Sample tracks can be heard on Buck's Rock's website.
Completed 2006 Projects and Plans for 2007
Following the close of the summer, our Caretaker, Forrest Canepari and Ash Cartwright have been busy with many new projects and improvements. The Dance
Studio and Buck's Rock's WBBC Radio station are receiving major renovations. In Actors Studio we are adding another cupola for ventilation, as well as other improvements. Many camper living areas will also be renovated. Among them are: Boys House, Girls Annex I, Girls Cabins and Boys Annex.
Buck's Rock to Celebrate its 65th Summer
The summer of 2007 will mark Buck's Rock's 65th season! In collaboration with Friends of Buck's Rock, our Alumni Organization, we look forward to
organizing a memorable day for alumni and our 2007 campers and staff on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Should you have any thoughts or ideas to share to
help make this day a success, please feel free to contact us directly or Lew Frish from FOBR alumevents@earthlink.net. We will keep you updated regarding the schedule of events.
2007 Enrollment
We are pleased to see so many campers returning and welcome the many new campers who will be joining us this summer. It is also clear that many staff had wonderful experiences with us, as many are already committed for the summer of 2007! We would like to remind those campers interested in the First Session in particular to send in your enrollment forms soon, as typically there is a wait-list for girls for the First Session by January. Please be reminded that the Early Enrollment Discount is applicable up until
December 15, 2006.
NEW! 2007 Six-Week Enrollment Option
This summer, we have made the Six-Week Session an enrollment option on our camper contract, which will allow campers and their families to schedule
their summer vacations and make plans without the wait. Six weeks at Buck's Rock has become increasingly popular among our campers, as it seems to offer a nice balance between camp and family activities.
Again this summer, campers enrolled for six weeks can enjoy participating in our annual music tribute, which has been coordinated by Ivan Rubenstein-Gillis these past many summers. Additionally, six week campers can be part of our historic 65th Anniversary celebration.
First Session Campers and their parents should also be reminded that two or four week extensions are still an option once at Buck's Rock. Since space is limited, however, we encourage campers to have their parents contact Beverley in the Office as soon as a decision has been made.
C.I.T. and J.C. Applications
We are accepting applications for our Counselor-in-Training Program from all campers who are 15 before January 1. We remind anyone who is eligible, that applications are due by December 15. Please contact us should you have any
questions regarding the program. For those C.I.Ts who wish to be considered for a Junior Counselor position and JCs who wish to return next summer,
please write to us at 59 Buck's Rock Road, New Milford, CT 06776 or email us. There is no formal application for Junior Counselor positions; letters are due by December 15. We will confirm all CITs of their placement and studio assignment and advise JCs of our decisions by the end of January.
Good News from Buck's Rockers
Sam Kusnetz and Kerry Silva Ryan were married at Buck's Rock at the end of this past summer on August 26. It was their dream come true to marry at camp and we were so honored to be able to host their beautiful wedding.
Rick Price and Christine Seymour were recently married on October 7th, 2006. Rick has also become a full-time Buck's Rock employee and will be assisting us with camper recruitment. We are truly thrilled to have Rick on board and look forward to working with him in this capacity off-season.
Hillary Cohn became engaged to Daniel Aizenman, an architect from Mexico city, this summer. They will be married in Boulder, Colorado in May of
2007.
Some of our Buck Rock campers recently sponsored a benefit concert called "Teens for the Philippines." Preston Wollner designed the poster; David Pollack and Max Mellman were in the band RATR; Ian Cory was the drummer in Cool and Unusual and also the vocalist in Somewhere There's a Fix (STAF), and Matt Weinberg was the guitarist in STAF. What a great bunch of talented kids and we are told that the event was a great success. Congratulations!
On a Personal Note
Emily, Dylan and Julian have all made a relatively easy transition back to home life and the routine of school. They each had their own wonderful
summers. Julian, in particular, thrived and grew so much right before our eyes. Thank you to all of you who interacted with our children, offering
them friendship and support in their endeavors. Like so many of us, Emily and Dylan relish their summers at Buck's Rock. These last two summers prove that Julian, too, will be equally enamored. They are all looking forward to Reunion, as are we! We hope to see many of you there or next summer at camp.
Enjoy the school year!
Warm Regards,
Mickey and Laura
