We are very proud of Buck's Rock and view it as more than just a summer camp. It is a unique, alternative program for adolescents between the ages of 11 and 16, offering them the opportunity to discover more about the world and themselves through free, supported exploration of the arts. The instructional staff we hire are all college trained (21 years of age and over) and are typically teachers, students and talented artists.
We have over 350 campers and CITs and a staff of 230 instructors and counselors. We are confident that a person who is skilled in the field and who has the ability and the interest in working with young people will find the working environment both congenial and stimulating.
Our workshops are professionally equipped and probably on par with, if not superior to, what is available to most amateur artists and crafts people. The instructors we seek must be well-experienced in the particular area and patient in the teaching of young people.
Our campers choose freely among a large variety of studios and workshops in the fine arts, theater, dance, music, clowning, improvisation, and sports. Since all the work they do is voluntary, the young people attracted to our program are well motivated and interested in learning.
We hire instructors in all areas of the camp: digital photography, ceramics, metalsmithing, sculpture, fabric design/batik, sewing, woodworking, glassblowing, culinary arts, printmaking and silkscreening, book arts and paper making, leather, weaving, painting and drawing, creative writing and journalism, music, recording, video, dance, theater, lighting and sound, set design, costume design, computer programming, and sports. Other areas include house or general counselors, lifeguards, nurses, and kitchen, dining room and maintenance staff.
