I’M A paint-mixing, ARTIST-FIRST, DIRECTOR OF CREATIVE ARTS.
YEARS AT BUCK'S ROCK: 11 summers, all as staff.
CURRENT POSITION: Director of Creative Arts
HOMETOWN: Easton, Massachusetts.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT AT BUCK'S ROCK? I’m a contributing faculty member at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP? Honestly?? Oceanographer.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? Seaweed salad. Relish. Daisies.
FAVORITE THINGS TO DO: Ordering art supplies and using them. Jotting ideas. Teaching others.
FAVORITE SAYING: Experience is the mother of wisdom.
FAVORITE BUCK'S ROCK SHOP: I always marvel at how elaborate all of the productions in the summer theater end up being. The kind of organizational effort slamming together on-stage to make cool memories happen is something that I rarely encounter outside of camp.
LITTLE-KNOWN FACT: I used to work in what is now the Computer Arts & Maker Shop, among other select areas around camp.
WEIRDEST PERSONAL TALENT: I can whistle, but only by pulling in air, as opposed to out.
BEST PART OF YOUR JOB: Unboxing new supplies with campers in a huge group. Tearing cardboard. Admiring fresh sketchbooks. Cultivating possibility.
FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: Dark cherry.
PROUDEST MOMENT: Being humbled by how seriously campers take to evening drawing and painting sessions. Sensing real growth in a painting.
FAVORITE CARTOON THEME SONG: Batman: The Animated Series, or ‘90s X-Men. Futurama.
WHERE IS YOUR HAPPY PLACE: The remote path from the gong to Computers. There’s happiness in beginnings.
SECRET AMBITION: To write like Cormac McCarthy.
OBSESSION: Movie popcorn.
